I always equate Gardenia as the flowers of my childhood, we had several trees of these when I was growing up in the province.  They have that sweet,  intoxicating, heady scent.  They are cultivated as house plant.  A genus of 142 species of flowering plants in the coffee family Rubiaceae.  They are evergreen shrubs that grow as small trees and reach a height of about 1-5 meters.
